Should we become like children or not?

Claim:

Mark 10:14-15 claims that we should become like children, but this passage states that we shouldn’t become like children. Which is true?

Response:

These passages are given in two entirely different contexts. Mark 10 is given in the context of the self-righteousness of the Pharisees (Mk. 10:1-12) and the pride of wealth (Mk. 10:17-31). However, Ephesians 4 is given in the context of false teaching (“…carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men…”). Therefore, God wants us to be like a child in regard to our dependence and trust. However, he doesn’t want us to become like children in regard to ignorance or gullibility.
