CLAIM: The Bible teaches a physical resurrection at the end of human history (Dan. 12:2; 1 Cor. 15:42-44) and a physical Earth (Rev. 21-22). However, Paul says the stomach will be done away with (1 Cor. 6:13). Will we have physical bodies in heaven or not?
RESPONSE: Paul is referring to physical death in verse 13 –not physical resurrection. Paul mentions the resurrection from the dead in verse 14. In other words, Paul is saying that God will do away with the body at death (v.13), but he’ll raise the body in the resurrection (v.14). The Corinthians were using this maxim (“Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food”) to justify their licentiousness. However, Paul is arguing that their analogy breaks down. While our bodies will breakdown and die, God is still concerned with what we do in our bodies.
